Brand Pedigree - Important Factor When Buying Mid-Priced Watches

In this economy, spending $1,000 or more on a new timepiece is a substantial amount of money. You have a lot of choice, and a lot of decisions to make. One of the easiest ways to ensure you are buying a quality timepiece that can hold its value is to purchase from a well known and well respected watchmaker. Manufacturers like TAG Heuer, Omega, and Cartier who have long standing histories in the industry make great choices. These types of companies have, what we call, great "brand pedigree". Below are some other factors worth considering, when shopping for these types of watches:

• Watch movement; if you are spending a substantial amount on a new watch you might look at mechanical movements. These timepieces are quality crafted and specialized. A mechanical timepiece will not need batteries and can come in self winding models.

• If you go with a mechanical, I recommend a certified chronometer. These watches have been put through very strenuous tests and proven to be the most accurate models.

• Another added benefit of the mechanical timepiece is an aesthetic element. Many designers will place see-through case backs or aperture windows in their timepieces so that we can see the movement in action. This is a beautiful addition.

• At this price point, you can ask for finer materials and gemstones...even diamonds. Just make sure the timepiece is finished properly. A well appointed piece will have impeccable detailing.

There are many considerations when buying expensive timepieces. Look at all your options, before diving in.
