Low-cost multiple camera solution to be showcased at CES

LATTICE Semiconductor and Aptina will showcase a multiple camera stereo design at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show from 10 to 13 January at Las Vegas.

The dual image low-cost solution uses the MT9M034 and the MT9M024 720p digital image sensors developed by Aptina.

The images are combined into a single bus which is processed by the image signal processor (ISP).

The generated output is used to implement multi-camera applications or three-dimensional stereoscopic videos.

According to the companies, the low cost of the solution means it can be used for consumer applications. Potential uses include surround view cameras and black box recorders for cars.

The information from the dual image sensors is received by a Lattice MachX02 programmable logic device (PLD), outputting a combined image for the ISP bus. An SDRAM chip is used for frame buffering.
