Review of Omega Speedmaster GMT Solar Impulse HB-SIA Watch

The Omega Speedmaster GMT Solar Impulse HB-SIA watch is actually not a very new Omega watch as it first appeared in the Baselworld 2008. But is is sure one of the most interesting and uncommon Speedmaster watches that Omega has released in these years.

As we know, Omega has been supporting the "Solar Impulse" Project which comes out with a the first Solar Impulse HB-SIA plane. The solar-polar plane means a lot in this planet facing serious recourse shortage. To pay tribute to this plane, the Omega watch is named after it. And that is one of the reason behind I call it an uncommon Speedmaster watch.

Another reason is that, it is the first Omega Speedmaster watch made from Titanium. This light and hard material is regarded as a top-class metal in the industry. The 44.25mm case, bracelet and the crown as well as pusher buttons are all crafted from Grade-2 Titanium. The third unusual point is that the watch showcases a very nice-looking carbon fiber dial which is protected by a sapphire crystal with AR-coating.

Beating inside this nice-looking watch is the exclusive Omega 3603 Caliber , a reliable COSC-certified chronometer with 55 hours power reserve. This automatic movement has equipped with Omega's Co-Axial escapement and column wheel based chronograph complication. It offers chronograph functions, GMT and a date display. The GMT hand is independently adjustable while the date can also be adjusted very easily through the crown.

The layout of the watch is nothing special but very classic Speedmaster one. Still, we can find some interesting details on this Omega watch. The font of the numerals is quite futuristic. I really love the GMT tipped with a tiny planet. And you will sure notice the eye-catching orange "HB-SIA" inscription which suggests the name of the airplane - Hotel Bravo Solar Impulse Alpha. The bezel also features "Tachymeter Base 1000"in echoing orange.
