Microsemi tips 'private label' FPGA program

SAN FRANCISCO—Chip vendor Microsemi Corp. Monday (Dec. 5) unveiled a private labeling program for its SmartFusion customizable SoCs.

Under the program, devices will be marked with the customer's logo and part number, Microsemi (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) said. Microsemi will program all devices, alleviating the need for customers to build in-house programming capabilities and infrastructure, the company said.

Microsemi's customizable SmartFusion SoCs include a licensed, hard ARM Cortex-M3 processor. Customers don't need to obtain a separate license from ARM, Microsemi said.

"Our new private label program enables companies to rapidly deliver economical and differentiated system-on-chip solutions, which is a key competitive advantage," said Esam Elashmawi, vice president and general manager at Microsemi, in a statement.

According to Microsemi, more than a dozen companies are already using its flash-based, highly flexible architectures to deliver tailored solutions to customers.

Microsemi's SmartFusion customizable SoCs are the only devices that integrate an FPGA, a complete microcontroller built around a hard ARM Cortex-M3 processor and programmable analog.
