Snapdragon S4 processor goes embedded

LONDON – Intrinsyc Software International Inc. (Vancouver, British Columbia), a product development company that helps other companies develop smartphones and tablet computers, is offering an embedded development system for Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 processor.

Intrinsyc, which has offices in China, Taiwan the United States and the United Kingdom, usually provides support in the form of driver development, reference designs, wireless modules, navigation software is now offering the Snapdragon S4 Plus APQ8060A processor in the form of the Open-Q system-on-module.

The APQ8060A is believed to be a double-core design with Adreno 225 graphics core, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n but without the cellular communications modelm on-chip. The device has reportedly been designed into the Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 tablet computer.

When the Open-Q system-on-module is combined with the Snapdragron APQ8060A based DragonBoard it creates a platform for the development of embedded products, Intrinsyc said. The Open-Q SOM supports the Linux Android operating system and includes memory, peripherals. The DragonBoard includes the software tools and accessories required to start development.

Intrinsyc is set to showcase the DragonBoard and SOM based on Snapdragon S4 Plus APQ8060A processor at the Qualcomm booth #800, at the DesignEast Conference, at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, MA, from Sept. 17 to 20, 2012. DesignEast is organized by UBM Electronics, the owner of EE Times.

"The Snapdragon S4 Plus APQ8060A processor is ideally suited for vertically integrated products requiring powerful computing, a rich multimedia subsystem in a low power form factor," said Tracy Rees, CEO of Intrinsyc, in a statement."

"With extensive experience in developing industry leading Linux Android based embedded products, Intrinsyc is helping to enable innovation and expand products that will be based on Snapdragon processors," said Tia Cassett, senior director of business development for Qualcomm, in the same statement.

Users of the DragonBoard will receive product documentation and access to complimentary tools and software updates, as well as receive additional support through Intrinsyc’s technical support services. Developers can also make use of Intrinsyc's turnkey product development services.
