Keeping Your Cartier Leather Strap Clean

When you buy a luxury watch, such as a Cartier you make a substantial investment. If you own a watch with a leather strap, you need to care for it in a special way. Leather can wear down faster than metal, if not cared for properly, and although you can change out most watch straps, it's definitely more cost effective to maintain the one you currently have. You can purchase leather cleaning kits, or you can use normal household items to clean and condition your leather strap. Here's what you need:

• A soft, damp cloth, which will be used to clean and buff the leather.

• A bowl of water, some to make the baking soda paste and some for rinsing purposes.

• Some baking soda, to use a cleaning and freshening paste.

• A bit of olive oil, to add moisture and shine.

• Some saddle soap (or any leather soap)

Let's get started. First, take the strap off. You can remove the strap, by taking out the pins, which hold it to the watch face. If you prefer not to remove the straps, you must cover the watch, so that nothing damages it. Make a paste from the baking soda and water, to remove any stains and refresh the scent of the leather. Apply the paste, and walk away for about an hour, or so. After washing away all the residue, let the straps dry overnight, then rub with saddle soap, and apply a small amount of olive oil. Polish and you're done! Maintaining the leather strap of your watch will make the whole piece look great and last longer.
