Preventing Damage to Omega Watches

All high quality watches require routine care and maintenance. Omega watches and many other watch brands set forth specific guidelines for the care and maintaining of their watches. Here a few of the ways you can avoid damage to your watch:

1. Clean you watch with a damp cloth and shine with a jewelers buffing cloth.

2. Avoid bringing your watch in contact with any kind of chemicals or detergents, which may cause damage to seals and gaskets.

3. Avoid any extreme temperatures or excessive changes in temperature.

4. If you have a water resistant model, rinse with clear water after exposing to salt water.

5. Models featuring a screw down crown, should always have the crown completely screwed in to keep any moisture out.

6. Avoid any type of shock to your watch, this can interrupt the movement.

7. Keep your watch away from any magnetic fields. Items, such as refrigerators and stereo speakers possess strong magnetic fields.

8. Unless you have specific models, never operate your chronograph under water. Only certain specialized versions are equipped with pushers, which may be operated under water, otherwise, water can easily get in and damage your watch.

Caring for your watches is not a rocket science, but it does take some understanding of how the watches are crafted, and what their specific limitations are. Understand your watch and how it was constructed, so that you don't push it beyond its limits and possibly damage it. Preventing damage to your watch is easy, if you follow a few simple guidelines.
