Do Men Care About Brand Name Watches?

Do men care as much about the brand name on their wristwatches, as women do? Does it really matter to your husband, whether or not his timepiece is made by Gucci watches or Timex? Well, 20 years ago, I would have said no, but now days I believe that the status of brand names plays a more significant role in the products men purchase, especially their watches.

There are a number of reasons for this shift. For one thing, men are being targeted in marketing ads and through clever designing. A few watchmakers, such as Breitling and Panerai offer primarily men's timepieces in their lines. Their styling is large and commanding, and the message is raw masculinity. Men love it. Other companies like TAG Heuer produce sport luxury models, which are just as appealing to the male gender, but is it the styling and design that they are attracted to or the brand name?

I believe it is a bit of both. Brand pedigree goes a long way in helping a piece maintain its value after the purchase. Men love an investment, and the fact that their timepiece may not decrease in value is a plus. In addition, the brand name offers status and that reputation in a watchmaker is a quite appealing.

The bottom line is that men do care about the impression they give off. They want to impress us gals, and they know that we pay attention to the details (like their wristwatches). Some may say they have become more vain...I say they have gotten smarter.
